Oh-kay! HAppy easter everybody!!!! how's everyone doing by the way? hmm.. me, I'm off tomorrow easter sunday, yay!!! glad I'm off 'coz so's my hubby, lolz.. well, I don't know what we're planning for tomorrow but hopefully it would be nice, though. nothing much happened today as usual but the same thing for me over and over at work. customers really are so irritating, blech!
but as a good customer service worker.. ahem.. I handled them all good. yesterday a filipina (a guest) tried to turn me in because of not giving her a subtotal. which isn't really allowed at the commissary since there are a lot of abusive customers who aren't even military but as guests only. I was offering to call a manager for her complaint but she disregarded it saying that i wasn't doing my job.. holding up the line people next to them we're giving odd looks to each other..
she was only a guest and she's the one complaining while her sponsors are just quiet.. please! I gave her a big smile and explained to her again the policies of purchasing of visitors.. ack! she remained so defensive and kept speaking in tagalog about me! well, as for me-I just rang up all the groceries and kept my cool as I was just doing my Job, the lady thought I couldn't understand her at all??! everytime she spoke in tagalog about me I always gave a comment about it.. and there she goes, she finally got a hint that I understood her all along.. whew.. thank you! they grabbed their groceries and went out of the store.. just about time, too. I turned at my next customer and explained everything, he just laughed about it and told me I was doing a great job. I wasn't really good at handling customers, but that was different. she doesn't have any military or dependent id at all. sigh..well, ok as i said awhile ago I understood everything she said in tagalog. that is just one of the reasons why I don't speak tagalog at work even with my fellow filipina friends. It's like a cloak,
when I hear them speaking about me there is no way you can change it to something else. when I first started working there they thought I was mexican, spanish or portuguese?
and they couldn't tell at first coz I didn't had any filipino slang at all,
they wondered why I had such good english, because I came here in hawaii around 2003 and they we're so amazed why I didn't struggle with speaking english at all..
It's because I grew up speaking it with my dad (who's american) and my brother who's still in the PI but still speaks to his friends and me in english. he's words in tagalog are kinda.. I don't know.. jumbled? he doesn't speak tagalog very good. so yeah, people here always think I'm spanish or mexican.. a few times customer spoke to me in spanish and i was like, "no, sorry I don't speak spanish!"
oh, goodness.. they thought that i was local, that i grew up here in hawaii, no no! I wish i did? lolz.. oh my.. sorry for being so talkative.. and I just babbled away about myself?
tsk tsk tsk, kitty..
what's happening to you? ha haa.. sorry, it's just that I hadn't blogged for about a week now. i need to blurt out every detail, sounds silly, huh? well, ok here's the update from my job interview.
first of all it did ok. a lot of people went there. and yeah, I heard that there were around 200 people whos passed their resumes.. yikes!!! luckily, my hubby's co-worker who's also from Olongapo was there, too. what a relief! I lfeel very comfortable with her coz she's so funny and a lil humorous like my hubby, ha haa. she's a military wife so I always see her at work. Ok, here's the bad part.. I think I didn't make it !!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh well...
better luck next time, as long as they alreay have my resume they can call me up whenever there is an oppening the next time. that's what they told us. so I'm contented and just leave it there for now. there is plenty of time and there is no need to worry about having a new job just yet. we'll, work something out. hopefully my mom comes here and my brother before the end of the year. we have to find a new place to move in pretty soon.
so till then..
HAVE A HAPPY EASTER!!!
I know what you mean Kit, not being recognized as a half Filipina or part Filipina...
. I have that happen to me as well, people think that I look so much like some other Asian nationality other than Filipino/a. They never thought that I could be a Filipina, like some of the Filpinas I've met here...
. They'd be speaking in Tagalog right beside me not knowing that I understand them or what they're talking about...
. What a surprise look they have on their faces when they realize that I am from the Philippines too. It's so comical and I get a kick out of it
. Not too many people can tell that I am a Filipina especially because I developed an American accent from being here so long
. When I speak Tagalog or our Dialects, they'd say I don't sound like I am a Filipina anymore...
.
hello gurl! :) i really enjoyed reading ur latest blog entry. hehehe. :P i bet she felt very embarassed when she found out that u can understand what she's saying :o hehehe.. maski ako i have a hard time dealing with customers d2 sa internet cafe ng hubby ko lalo na pag nagsusungit but James kept on telling me "The Customer is Always Right!" I had a difficult time digesting that idea pero syempre u need to treat them nicely para d kami mawalan ng customers. ;)
Hey Kit... You're so nice for treating that Filipina calmly. If I was in your place I don't know how to act towards her I might explode too. I knew some Filipina who acted like that way too..I oftentimes thought I wish I didnt meet her.. Anyway.. you're doing a good job.:)
